This past week, senior Jennifer Johnson, of the 5-Year English MA Program, brought home an award from the 2019 Sigma Tau Delta International Convention. This was Johnson’s first time attending Convention, where she earned 3rd place in the category of Critical Essays in American Literature for her paper, “Harriet Jacobs: Invisibility in Power.” She was awarded $200 for her essay, which was written during her junior year capstone, “Picturing Blackness” taught by Dr. Cassandra Jackson. Johnson will be graduating this May, earning a BA in English as well as a BA in Political Science, before continuing her graduate education with the English Department.
